Let’s Talk About Your Winter Haircare
18/07/2022 2022-07-29 14:13Let’s Talk About Your Winter Haircare
Just like your skin, your hair needs a little extra TLC when the cooler weather hits. The perfect storm (pardon the pun) of dropping temperatures, air conditioning and wind can leave your locks feeling decidedly lacklustre. Read on for some of our top tips for happy hair all year round.
Wash your hair less frequently, if you can
To avoid drier hair in winter, avoid too frequent hair washing. Your natural oils provide a protective layer between the scalp and hair that does its best work when it’s healthy, and stripping that layer can lead to oil over production, brittle strands and more. When you do wash, opt for nourishing, all-clean hair formulas like Chloe Zara Hair Silk Hair Wash and Silk Hair Condition or Ethique’s WonderBar Solid Conditioner Bar, which also strengthen and protect your hair. Oh and most importantly: never leave the house with wet hair in winter. The cold is extremely damaging to damp hair and can even cause it to break.

Stock up on dry shampoo
Bridge the gap between washes – and avoid greasy roots – by embracing a great dry shampoo. Even better? Dry shampoo delivers instant volume, so is the dream for fine hair types at any time of the year. We love Alder New York’s Texture Powder, which is formulated for all hair types and colours and stays clean thanks to innovative ingredients like texturising kaolin and sea clay, shavegrass powder, and rice powder, plus natural eucalyptus and lime essential oils.
Â
Take care with the heat
Air drying your hair in winter? As aforementioned, not such a great idea – the cold not withstanding! But the heat from hair dryer overuse isn’t good for your hair either. Instead, apply a heat protection or pre-styling product and blow dry using the diffuser on a low heat setting. We love Chloe Zara Hair Hair Crème, which can be used on wet or dry hair as a therapeutic leave-in treatment or as a protective pre-styling foundation to all heat-styling techniques.Â
Â
Moisturise a little more often
Cold weather and indoor heating doesn’t just impact our skin, but our hair too. As we said before, swap out your usual duo for a moisture-restoring shampoo and conditioner during the colder months, and also add a weekly moisturising mask to your care routine, too. A once-a-week intensive treatment will help winter-proof your hair, like Chloe Zara Hair Silk Hair Balm, a premium masque treatment balm that is ideal for hair that is dry or damaged from colouring or heat tools. It is rich with natural oils to give your hair optimum restorative hydration and shine.
Â
Try a hair oil
A blessing for fragile winter hair, a high performing, clean hair oil can help dry-feeling hair to regenerate and gives it new freshness and shine. Chloe Zara Hair Hair & Body Perfume Oil is an everyday luxury we can’t get enough of, and can be applied directly to wet hair after you rinse out your shampoo or, alternatively, after blow drying. The ends of your hair will benefit from this treatment most of all, since they’re also roughed up by coats, scarves, and jumpers in winter.
Â
Split ends? Cut them off
Summer isn’t so great either, but if you live in colder climes, winter can be the toughest of all on the ends of your hair. Friction against hats, coat collars and scarves causes extra stress, and split ends can be the unfortunate side effect. However, book in for regular trims and those split ends won’t stand a chance – and why not throw in an in-salon treatment while you’re there? Your hair will love you for it.
