Our Quick + Easy Antioxidant-Rich Smoothie

We love a deliciously healthy smoothie, which is the perfect choice for a quick and nutritious breakfast, snack on the go or post-workout refuel. It’s also a great addition to your daily routine in the lead up to Christmas when we’re all racing for the finish line and quite possibly not sustaining ourselves in the most mindful way possible.

Summer in New Zealand means an abundance of berries for many of us, and who doesn’t love a classic berry-based smoothie? In fact, a berry smoothie is a nutritious and delicious boost in any season, with frozen fruit lending a denser, creamier element to the end result.

This berry smoothie boasts a wide array of nutritious ingredients packed with antioxidants, vitamins, fibre and protein. Feel free to mix and match ingredients, but in general, we suggest trying to stick to the fruit and liquid ratios to ensure the smoothie stays nice and creamy. We love a trio of berries for their supercharged nutritional value, and also because of the Insta-worthy purple hue!

Give your bod a boost and get a head start on your New Year’s goals with this antioxidant-rich recipe that delivers ALL the goodness…

½ frozen banana: using a frozen banana helps to sweeten and thicken your smoothie, but if you want, you can skip the banana completely and use vanilla Greek yoghurt instead.

½  cup blueberries, strawberries and raspberries: the more the merrier, these beauties deliver an antioxidant punch like no other!

2 cups organic spinach: get some extra greens in by adding spinach – you won’t be able to taste it, we promise!

1 tablespoon all-natural almond butter: almond butter (or any other nut butter) will add a creaminess, a boost of protein, and healthy fats to your smoothie.

1-1 ½ cups of almond milk (or milk of choice): feel free to use any milk you’d like in your smoothie recipe according to your preferences. Almond and oat milk tends to have a neutral taste in smoothies, coconut milk will add a more creamy flavour, and regular milk will add a boost of protein.

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

You can enhance this berry smoothie even more by adding additional nutritious ingredients to really make it your own. Feel free to add in a tablespoon of chia seeds for a boost of healthy fats and fibre, or hemp seeds for a boost of healthy fats, omegas and minerals. To add a little heartiness to your smoothie and to help thicken it add 1/3 cup of oats, and be sure to make life a little easier by adding one of IMBIBE’s inner beauty offerings for skin health and wellness. IMBIBE’s Miracle Collagen is scientifically formulated to plump and firm your skin from within, whilst Beauty Renewal is a delicious multi-strain probiotic concentrate designed to promote gut health and glowing skin.
