Gorgeous brows are always on trend, and thankfully need little upkeep if you’re born blessed with a perfect pair! When done right, and shaped in accordance with the shape of your face, they can accentuate all the right features and will give you a polished look like no other.
Many of us need a little extra help and that needn’t be an expensive mission or require fortnightly trips to a brow bar. We’ve lined up some easy at-home tips for beautiful brows that most definitely won’t break the bank.
Find the perfect shape for you
Take cues from a celebrity arch you like, but never ever try to make your brows be something they’re not. No two faces are the same, and your brows are never going to grow like somebody else’s! To identify the three points that you will need to look at when shaping your brows, use the ‘pencil’ method. Place a pencil in a straight line along the side of your nose – this is going to be the beginning (inside) of the brow. Next, place the pencil along your nose and across your pupil. This will be the arch and the highest part of your brow. Now move the pencil so that the end of your nostril and the outer edge of your eye are in line – this is the end of your brow.
Go easy with the tweezers
One of the easiest ways to get the best brows of your life is by leaving them alone. Yep, you read that right. Tweezers are excellent for getting rid of rogue hairs here and there, but they aren’t your best option for the overall shaping of your brows. Just one hastily plucked strand too far, and you could end up with a serious SOS-type situation on your hands that could take weeks – and professional intervention – to remedy.
Find products that work for you
There are so many options when it comes to eyebrow products, which is why it’s super important to make sure you’re using the right one. First: Think about your brow goals. Are you trying to fill in sparse spots and add definition? Grab a brow powder like our favourite from Hynt Beauty and an angled brush by the same brand. Are you trying to lightly shape and comb your hairs? Swipe on a lightweight brow gel.
Take your time with it
It’s never a good idea to fill in your brows with one single, heavy-handed strike of any product. Tiny, hair-like strokes are the goal here, so you’ll want to use small flicking motions – whether you’re using a powder and an angled brush, or a pencil. And always go in the direction of your hair growth to get the most realistic-looking result.
Choose concealer over highlighter
Although it’s popular on Insta – and quite often further manipulated with a filter – outlining your brows with highlighter can put too much of a spotlight on your arches and make them look fake. Instead, opt for a concealer that’s one shade lighter than your skin tone to brighten up your brow area while still looking fully natural and smooth.
And when you do check in with a professional?
To get the best out of a trip to a brow specialist, don’t apply any oils or moisturisers to the face before a treatment. Clean skin helps the likes of brow tint to grab better and last longer, and a little gentle exfoliation the night before will deliver an even result. It’s also advisable to avoid the gym just before an appointment and for 24 hours after – heavy perspiration opens pores and attracts irritation. And always wear sunscreen after your treatment, especially if waxing is involved.
